A pediatrician and a child therapist walk into a nursery...

BABY 1 and BABY 2: fussing, tongues sticking out, hands and arms in the air

MD: oh good, they have symmetrical and neurologically stable movements
MFT: they are communicating, we should mirror it (also sticks his tongue out)
MD: Developmentally, research shows that ...
MFT: Psychologically, infant attachment theory says......
MD: well, based on clinical guidelines, it is recommended.....
MFT: this exactly demonstrates adaptability skills .....
MD: twice daily should do the trick ....
MFT: they are triggering each other....

BABY 1 and BABY 2: loudly now, "ga..ahh, waa, gaaaaa", wriggling in all directions

MD: how do we address this crying?
MFT: what is the meaning of these meltdowns?

BABY 1 and BABY 2: bewildered, sucking their hands frantically, look at their parents with big wide eyes

Mom and Dad:   Oooohhhhhh, they are hungry.  Thank you for telling Mommy and Daddy; our brains got in the way of our instincts.
